Industrial visits are essential for pharmacy and biotechnology students, offering them a chance to experience real-world pharmaceutical operations. These visits provide practical insights into manufacturing processes, quality assurance, and research practices, complementing their academic knowledge and preparing them for future industry careers.
At the end of March, 17 students from the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Pécs participated in an industrial visit to Meditop. The group included students from pharmacy and biotechnology programs. The visit was organized by Laszlo Cholnoky College of Advanced Studies in collaboration with Meditop.
The role of the Cholnoky College in professional development
The Laszlo Cholnoky College of Advanced Studies is a student organization within the University of Pécs that fosters academic excellence and professional development of pharmacy and biotechnology students. It organizes events, workshops, and industry collaborations to provide students with opportunities to enhance their knowledge and skills. As the organizing body for this visit, with the support of the National Talent Programme (NTP) grant the College played a vital role in connecting students with Meditop Pharmaceuticals Ltd., facilitating this valuable learning experience.
Meditop - quality and innovation in pharmaceutical production
Meditop is a leading pharmaceutical company based in Pilisborosjenő, Hungary. Established in 1995, it specializes in producing over 60 pharmaceutical products for domestic and international markets across 25 countries. Meditop contributes significantly to Hungary's pharmaceutical innovation and manufacturing excellence.
Students were guided through tailored tours of Meditop's pharmaceutical plant, where they observed every step of the manufacturing process from the initial steps to packaging. Witnessing these processes firsthand allowed students to connect theoretical concepts with practical applications while gaining a deeper understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
Academia and industry – building bridges for the future
The program also included a short meeting between the leadership of the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Pécs and Meditop’s management team. This meeting highlighted the importance of academia-industry partnerships in fostering innovation and preparing skilled professionals for the pharmaceutical sector.

The Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Pécs offers a comprehensive PharmD program and BSc biotechnology program. These programs emphasize hands-on learning through internships and collaborations with leading pharmaceutical companies like Meditop. Such partnerships provide students with exposure to novel technologies and industry practices, ensuring they are well-prepared for diverse roles in healthcare, research, and manufacturing. The participants expressed their gratitude to Cholnoky College and Meditop for organizing this enriching visit, which not only enhanced their professional knowledge but also strengthened ties between academia and industry.
