Topic
Courses of pharmaceutical technology are taught in the 3rd and 4th years of school of pharmacy. Aim of courses of Pharmaceutical Technology is introducing basic technological processes, preformulation and formulation of pharmaceutical dosage forms taking into account physico-chemical, pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical properties of active agents and pharmaceutical excipients.
Further studies include review of national and international pharmacopoeias.
Practices usually begin with seminars where basic introduction of the proper lesson takes place. After seminars students have to prepare medicines according to the laws of pharmaceutical formulation technology in proper dosage forms including calculation of single and daily maximal dose, preparation, labeling and pricing. Students also have to prepare galenic formulations according to the official formula. Practices of quality control of medicines are carried out as well.
Course Pharmaceutical Technology 1 includes practice with liquid dosage forms such as solution, syrup, elixir, oral drop, ear drop, nasal drop, parenteral solution and associated calculations with practices of quality control of mentioned dosage forms.

Conditions for acceptance of the semester
Throughout the semester, completion of all practical sessions and acceptance of the laboratory reports and pharmaceutical preparations by the instructor are required as part of the semester acceptance criteria. Opportunities to make up missed practical sessions are provided in accordance with the Code of Studies and Examinations.
At the beginning of certain practical sessions defined in the practical schedule, students take in-class tests. These tests consist of:

Prescription writing
To fulfill the requirements for accepting the semester, each task type in these tests must be completed at a minimum 50%. There are two opportunities to retake each test. Failure to attend a retake leads to a failing grade. If a test is graded as insufficient (and the student’s absences have not exceeded the allowed limit), the student will not receive a passing grade for the semester, and “fail” will be recorded.
Mid-term exams
During the semester, there is one mid-term exam and one end-of-term exam. There are two opportunities to retake any exam with a failing grade. Failure to attend a retake of a failing exam will result in a failing grade. If either the mid-term or end-of-term exam is insufficient (and the student’s absences have not exceeded the allowed limit), the student will not receive a passing grade for the semester, and “fail” will be recorded in the Neptun System. Grade-improvement exams are not permitted.
The final evaluation of the semester is based on the practical work, the in-class tests, the mid-term and end-of-term exams, and the evaluation of laboratory reports, resulting in a practical grade. Earning a passing practical grade (i.e., better than “fail”) is a prerequisite for accepting the semester.
Making up for missed classes
Students must fulfil requirements determined by the Code of Studies and Examinations.
All missed or failed preparations manufactured on the practice should be made up on supplementary practices!
