The Advent Concert is an essential part of the preparations at the end of the year at the University of Pécs Medical School. The Hungarian Admissions and Student Service Office organized the event for the 15th time on 25 November starting at 7 p.m. in the Dr. György Romhányi Aula, where students, lecturers and members of the Faculty sang and played music together. As part of the evening, the Bajnóczky Award was also presented in order to honour the memory of the Professor and the former Head of the Department of Forensic Medicine.
The Dr. György Romhányi Aula of the Medical School was full again this year, students, lecturers, colleagues and others, who were interested attended the Concert to get in tune together with the holidays and the festive season. As every year, the performers were the members of the Faculty, and their performance was really enjoyable.
According to the traditions, Professor Dr. Dóra Reglődi, Vice-Dean for Science, opened the Concert. The Concert was culturally diverse again this year as Hungarian and foreign students were also able to show their talent, often with joint performances to build bridges between nations. In addition to the PTE Voice POTEntial choir, which was founded in 2023, the symphony orchestra formed by students of the University of Pécs Medical School and the University of Pécs Faculty of Pharmacy also performed for the first time at the Advent Concert this year. The symphony orchestra was formed as a unique initiative at the Faculty, within the framework of a musical project.

During the break, the Bajnóczky Award was also presented in order to honour the memory of the Professor and the former Head of the Department of Forensic Medicine. Based on a student initiative, the Award was founded by the Dean of the Medical School and was awarded for the 11th time in 2025 as a recognition of artistic activities. The award in the lecturer category was given to Dr. István Sárosi, retired associate professor, because of his many decades of successful work as a writer. The judges found themselves in a slightly more difficult situation regarding the student category, as 14 students applied for the award and it was shared between Joori Park and Liliána Lucas, sixth-year medical students.
Dr. István Sárosi, retired associate professor, was born in Salgótarján in 1951. He graduated from the Medical School in 1975 with a general medical degree. He was the organizer and was the first director of the Department of Emergency Medicine, and he currently works as an active cardiologist. His writing career began in 1984 with The Victim, when the drama was performed in theatre. His first novel was published in 1989, followed by a selection of short stories and further dramas. In addition to his many decades of excellent professional work, he has an extremely successful and rich literary career behind him.
Joori Park has been engaged in drawing and graphic design for many years, as evidenced by numerous awards. She continued to make use of her remarkable talent during her university studies as well, with her work appearing in student newspapers and on posters. For her, art has gradually become more than a hobby, it has become a bridge between medicine, learning, and human connection. As a visual learner, she believes illustration can make medical communication warmer and more human.
Liliána Lucas began studying music and singing eleven years ago with the vocalist Tímea Tillai and has been dedicated to it ever since. She has performed as a soloist at numerous events. She has continuously developed her skills, raised them to an advanced level. During her university years, she was a regular performer at events at the Medical School, including Spring and Advent concerts, exhibition openings, high school prom and charity gala.
