Call for applications for the Learning Support Mentor Program for the spring semester of the academic year 2024/2025

One of the missions of the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Pécs (UP) is to help its students progress in their studies and thus reduce student drop-out. To this end, a Learning Support Mentoring Program for Pharmacy (English/Hungarian) and Biotechnology students has been established. The aim is to create student study groups led by senior pharmacy or biotechnology students (mentors), where students can discuss the more challenging details of a given subject with the help of each other and the support of the mentor.

We are looking for upper-year students to take on the role of mentor, where the mentor's task is to prepare the mentored students for the exam in their selected subject so that they pass as many of the exams as possible at the end of the semester. The mentor will receive a stipend for the mentoring.

To apply, please send the completed application form electronically to mentor@gytk.pte.hu. The name of the submitted document must be without accent marks:

IMPORTANT information

  1. Mentor program: the Faculty of Pharmacy of the UP also offers a Learning Support Mentor Program for pharmacy and biotechnology students.
  2. Subject mentoredWhen applying for the mentor program, you must indicate the subject(s) in which you can offer mentoring. A mentor can provide mentoring mentorship in up to two subjects per semester. The subject(s) will be selected by the program coordinator depending on the number of students and the required assistance in the subjects each semester.
  3. Mentored students: up to 2 students in English per mentor.
  4. Selection of mentors: an important factor in the award of a mentoring grant is the subjects in which mentoring is required in the given semester, i.e. the subjects in which students have taken an examination course. Applications will be evaluated based on the candidate's academic record, the candidate's teaching experience, and the candidate's ability to demonstrate the following skills: communication, problem-solving, debating skills, motivation, and higher scores in the oral interview. For English language programs, a copy of the language certificate is required. A 3-member committee (2 program coordinators and one member delegated by the Student Council) will evaluate the applications based on a scoring system. After submission of the completed application form and a personal interview, the applicant will be informed of the outcome of the application by e-mail before 14 February.
  5. Grant amount: the mentoring grant is paid for the 3 months mentoring (March, April, May). The mentor will receive a monthly mentoring stipend of HUF 40,000 per mentored student for mentoring in English (but up to 2 students may be mentored).
  6. Payment: the mentoring grant is paid in accordance with the provisions of the Payment and Allowance Rules.

The successful applicant will lose the right to receive the scholarship or its supplement if he/she ceases to be an active student or does not/not adequately perform the mentoring activity. In the latter case, the evaluation committee will decide on terminating the scholarship payment.

You may submit any missing documents only once with a deadline determined by the Evaluation Committee.

The student may appeal against the Committee’s decision within 15 days from the date of notification or from the date of becoming aware of the decision. The appeal must be addressed to the Second Level Study Committee and submitted to the body/individual who made the first level decision. It must be accompanied by the decision appealed against and the documents supporting the claim.

The Faculty would like to draw the attention of the successful applicants to the fact that following the mentored students’ examinations, the Faculty will announce a Mentoring Excellence Scholarship competition for mentor students, under which mentor students who have performed a high-quality and successful mentoring activity will receive an additional scholarship, based on  mentored student number, their feedback, the number of completed lessons,   their summary reports, and the number of the mentored students who have successfully passed the examination. The maximum scholarship amount is HUF 100 000, depending on the effectiveness of the mentoring activity.
